Important Info

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Dear Families,

Welcome to Kindergarten at St. Catherine. This year will be full of discovery, learning, and fun! I look forward to working with you and your child. Our teacher aide for Kindergarten this year is Mrs. Corcoran. We are so lucky to have her with us every day!

This letter includes information regarding the classroom procedures and expectations for the school year. If you ever have any questions or concerns, you can email me at [email protected]. You can also get information from our website at

Home Folders

Please check your child’s folder every night for important papers, notes, and newsletters. Once a week, your child will bring home a “decodable”. They are short stories that focus on sight words, word families, and sentence structure. Please practice reading this with your child, but this does not need to be sent back to school. If your child is the oldest/only, they will bring home a white envelope on Thursday, please return it to school on Friday.

Birthday Treats

We love to celebrate birthdays in Kindergarten1 You may send in birthday treats, but they are completely optional! Please send in items (bubbles, pencils, etc.) that are individually wrapped for a birthday treat. We will celebrate your child’s birthday in the classroom, but will send the treats home at the end of the day to be enjoyed after school.

Students are expected to follow school and classroom rules. We will be using “brag tags” as our classroom management. Each student will have a pocket to hold their tags. Brag tags are incentive tags that your child can earn for positive behavior and choices that he/she makes during the school day. Brag tags are earned when the teacher notices a choice or behavior that is done by a student that exceeds expectations.

Each week, the students will take their reward tags and place them on their reward necklace. Students may also lose reward tags if necessary. If they lose more than two reward tags in one day, they will lose time out of their recess. If they lose three reward tags, a note will be sent home for parents to sign and send back to school. I strongly believe in positive reinforcement in my classroom and this is one method that we will use this year to encourage the positive choices and hard work.

Scholastic Book Orders

I will be sending home order forms periodically as I receive them. My online code will be on the order form, as well as the due date. It is a great way to build an at home library!

We will have gym on Wednesdays and Fridays. The students may wear their gym uniforms on these days.

We will have library each Thursday. The boys and girls may take home a book from the library to be returned the following Thursday. They may not take home another book until they return their previous one.

We eat snack in our room every morning. You may send a healthy, peanut-free snack with your child along with a lunch every day. They may also bring water or juice to enjoy with their snack. Please encourage your child to only eat the snack he or she brought, and not to trade food with anyone or touch anyone else’s snack.

Questions and Concerns

Please do not hesitate to contact me throughout the year with questions or concerns. Parents are very important! If we work together as a team, this will be an awesome year for everyone! Thank you in advance for all of your support!

Sincerely, Mrs. Ashley Williams
