                                                          September

Hello kindergarten families! I am here to share a classroom update with you! I will post these regularly to let you know what's going on in kindergarten.
The students have been hard at work these past few weeks of school! We are working on learning our routines and working together. Everyone completed their I-Ready Diagnostic tests in both reading and math. They have never done I-Ready before, and I am so proud of their hard work! The information gained from these tests will help me to differentiate learning in order to help everyone succeed this year.
We have been working hard on letter sounds and letter writing. We are working our way through the alphabet and just completed the letter J. We also write in our journals everyday to help both our letter formation and writing skills.
Everyday we are practicing our sight words for September. The flashcards went home earlier this week. Please try and practice these at home. Knowing these words will help tremendously as we work on reading skills. We have also been talking about Secret Stories. Ask them about lazy a, superhero I, and their favorite, au and aw. Using Secret Stories helps them to identify common word sounds they will encounter when reading new words. They are also lots of fun!
In math we have been working on the numbers 1-5. We are working on proper number formation, and have spent some time playing math games. We will soon work on comparing and sorting.
In religion we have been talking about creation. We also attend mass every Wednesday morning as a school. This is something new to kindergarten, and they have been doing a good job listening and paying attention in church.
This Friday we will be spending some time with our 6th grade buddies and going on a fun scavenger hunt! Next week we will start talking about apples, and work on some fun apple themed activities! As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns. We are off to a great start in kindergarten!
