Rubrics
Below is a copy of the generic writing rubric I will be using starting the second week of September. Students are aware of what is expected in their writing and this will assist in grading students. There may be times that other rubrics are used based on what the writing is about.

Handwriting

Awesome! I wrote all of my letters neatly!

I did a good job MOST of the time!

I did OKAY, but had quite a few mistakes.

I didn’t do my personal best.

Capitalization/

Punctuation

I capitalized all proper nouns and beginnings of sentences! ALL of my sentences end with correct punctuation.

I used correct capitalization and punctuation MOST of the time.

I had SOME correct capitalization and punctuation in my writing.

I had NO correct capitalization and punctuation in my writing.

Spelling

ALL of my words are spelled correctly, including ALL of my sight words.

MOST of my words are spelled correctly, including ALL of my sight words.

SOME of my words are spelled correctly, and a FEW of my sight words are incorrect.

LOTS of my words are spelled incorrectly, and LOTS of my sight words are spelled incorrectly.

Complete Story

I have ALL the parts of my writing. I have an introduction, body paragraph and conclusion.

I am missing ONE part of my story.

I am missing TWO parts of my story.

I am missing more than TWO parts of my story.

Detail

My paragraph is 5 sentences long. It includes MANY compound or complex sentences.

My paragraph has 3-4 sentences and includes SOME compound or complex sentences.

My paragraph has less than 3-4 sentences and includes NO compound or complex sentences.

My paragraph has only 1-2 sentences.
